1. Who we are
Namelume is a domain search and registration service operated by the proprietor of Namelume, 11/25, 5th Thottasalai Street, Thennampalayam Road, Vagarayampalayam, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu 641659, India. The operator is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. This policy explains what data we collect and why.
2. Account data
When you sign up we store your email address and sign-in details with our authentication provider. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We use this to identify you, secure your account, and show your order history. If you turn on two-step verification, we store what is needed to check your sign-in codes, and keep your backup codes only in a scrambled (hashed) form. You can save your name, phone number and postal address in your profile; we use them to fill in the checkout form, which you can change before you pay. If you give a WhatsApp number when you sign up, we store it with your account; we do not send WhatsApp messages at present, and we use it only to fill in the phone number on your checkout form, which you can change before you pay. You can change or remove it in your profile. Names you save to your favourites are stored with your account. If you ask us to, we link orders you placed as a guest with the same verified email address to your account.
3. Registration data (ICANN)
To register a domain we collect the registrant's name, email, postal address, and phone number, and for some extensions the extra details their registry asks for. This information is required by ICANN and the relevant registry, is shared with our domain registry and registrar partners, and may be published or disclosed as required by registry policy, WHOIS rules, or law. We keep a copy of these details with your order.
4. Payment data
Card and payment details are collected and processed directly by our payment provider. Namelume does not store full card numbers. We retain the payment provider's order and payment identifiers so we can reconcile and support your purchase. Each purchase gets a GST invoice showing your name, email address, postal address and state.
5. How we use data
We use your data to provide the service, complete registrations, process payments, prevent fraud, meet legal and registry obligations, and respond to support requests. We send every customer service emails, such as order confirmations and messages about their purchases and domains; these are part of the service and are sent whether or not you agree to marketing. We send marketing emails only if you tick the marketing box at checkout (see section 10). If you ask us about a website, we store your name, phone number, business type, the domain and your message, and your account email if you are signed in. We use them only to contact you about that enquiry, and we keep them until you ask us to delete them. If you send us a message through the contact form, we store your name, email address, mobile number (if you give one), topic and message, and your account if you are signed in, and we use them only to reply to you. With each message we also store a one-way code made from your account or your IP address, so we can limit repeated messages; we do not store the IP address itself. To protect the site from abuse, we count the requests each IP address makes over a short period and block one that makes too many.
6. Retention
We keep order and registration records for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet tax, accounting, and registry requirements. If you start a checkout but do not pay, we remove the contact and registration details you entered from that checkout 30 days after you started it (our daily clean-up can take up to a day longer); the domains and amount stay so we can match any late payment. We keep searches for 180 days and then delete them (see section 11). We keep a record that a checkout reminder was sent (your email address and the checkout it was for) so that we never send a second one. If you tick the marketing box, we keep a record of when you agreed and the wording you agreed to, so we can show your consent.
7. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, subject to records we must retain by law or registry policy. Contact hello@namelume.in to make a request.
8. Third parties
Apart from the measurement and advertising tools described in section 9, we share data only with the providers needed to run the service: our hosting and database providers (they run the website and store your account and order data; our authentication provider also sends sign-up confirmation and password-reset emails), our domain registry and registrar partners (to register and manage your domains, and to set up any hosting you buy), our payment provider (payments), our email provider (order and domain emails, such as order confirmations, domain security notices and transfer codes), our customer email system (used for marketing emails and for following up on your orders), and an AI provider (it generates name ideas from the text you type into the AI name generator). Our customer email system acts as our processor: it uses this data only on our instructions and not for its own purposes. When you buy a domain we send it your name and email address and the order details: the domain, its extension (for example .com), the number of years and the price, and whether you asked about a website or ticked the marketing box. If you ticked the marketing box and do not finish a checkout, we send it your name, email address, the domains in that checkout, its total and the link back to your cart. We never send it your phone number, address or payment details. Our providers may process or store data on servers outside India.
9. Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to show your order confirmation after you pay, and your browser's storage to keep your cart; the site needs these to work. We also use Google Tag Manager to load measurement and advertising tools, which may include Google Analytics (to understand how visitors use the site), Google Ads (to measure whether our ads lead to sign-ups and purchases), and Meta Pixel (to measure and target our ads on Facebook and Instagram). These tools set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and send Google and Meta information such as the pages you visit (the address of a search results page contains the text you searched, and Google Analytics records it as a site search), your browser and device, your approximate location based on your IP address, and, when you buy, the order value, an order reference, the extensions and number of years bought and any coupon code used. When you send a website enquiry or a contact message, they learn that you sent one (and its topic), never your name, contact details or message. We do not share your domain registration details or payment details with them. Google Tag Manager also loads Microsoft Clarity, which provides session recordings and heatmaps to help us understand how visitors use the site. Clarity records how you interact with the site, such as clicks, scrolling and the pages you view, and receives information about your browser and device. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and manage ad personalisation in your Google and Meta account settings.
10. Marketing emails
At checkout you can tick a box to receive offers and tips from Namelume by email, and one reminder if you do not finish that checkout. It is unticked unless you tick it, and your order does not depend on it. If you tick it and do not complete payment, we may send you one email, between 2 hours and 3 days after you started, with a link that puts the same domains back in your cart. The link expires after 7 days and shows only the domains and your choices for them, never your contact details. We send no reminder if you pay, and none if you have unsubscribed or withdrawn. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also withdraw by writing to hello@namelume.in. Withdrawing does not stop emails about your orders.
11. Searches
When you search on Namelume (domain search, the AI name generator or bulk search), we store the text you typed, the kind of search, how many results it returned, the time, and a random identifier for your browser tab. We use this to see which names and extensions people look for and to improve the service. If you are signed in, the search is linked to your account, and you can see and clear your own searches on the Search history page. If you are not signed in, we do not link your searches to your name, email address or orders. Text you type into the AI name generator is sent to the AI provider that generates the name ideas. Please do not type personal or confidential information into a search. We keep searches for 180 days and then delete them. The text you search also appears in the page address, which the measurement tools in section 9 receive.

Please include your name, the email address you used with us, and your order or payment details if the complaint is about an order; the Grievance Officer will look into it and reply to you by email.
13. Browser extension
If you use the Namelume Domain Name Checker extension for Chrome, it sends us only the name you highlight or type, so we can tell you whether it is available as .in, .com and .co.in and what it costs. We check the name with our domain availability provider and send the answer back. The extension does not send us the page you are on, the text around the name, your browsing history, or any account or contact details, and our server sets no cookies for these checks. To protect the service from abuse, we keep short-lived counters (for up to two days) of how many checks are made, keyed by a one-way code made from your IP address, and our application log records the name checked, the time and that one-way code, not the address itself. Our hosting and infrastructure providers may also process IP addresses in the normal course of delivering the site. We do not store these checks as searches (section 11) or link them to you. If you click Register, namelume.in opens with the name already searched, and the rest of this policy applies as for any other visit.
