How to Buy a Domain Name in India: Steps and Cost
Buying a domain name in India takes five steps. This post shows each step, what a .in, .com and .co domain costs in the first year, and what to know about years, free offers and hosting.

To buy a domain name is to register it: you pay for the right to use a web address, such as example.in, for a set number of years, and renew it before the period ends. "Buy a domain name" and "register a domain name" mean the same thing.
How do you buy a domain name in India?

- Search for the name you want. If you are not sure what to pick, the Namelume AI name generator suggests names.
- Choose the extension, the ending after the dot, such as .in, .com or .co.
- Add the domain to your cart and choose how many years to register it for.
- Enter the contact details for the domain. You can check out without a Namelume account.
- Pay online. The domain is registered once the payment goes through.
To renew or manage the domain later, sign up or sign in with the email you used at checkout. For a .in domain, read how to register a .in domain.
How much does it cost to buy a domain name?
The first year of a .in domain costs ₹679, a .com costs ₹979 and a .co costs ₹4,749. The renewal price can differ from the first-year price, so check it before you pay. Prices are as of October 2026 and can change. The prices for every extension are in domain prices in India.
Can you get a domain name for free?
Namelume does not give free domain names. Every extension has a registration price, and the domain is renewed at the renewal price when the period ends. A free domain offered with another plan is usually free for the first year only, so check the renewal price. WHOIS privacy is free at registration on most extensions, but keeping it when you renew is an optional paid add-on, so it is free at registration, not free forever.
Where can you buy a domain name?
You can buy a domain name from any domain seller, also called a registrar. Namelume sells .in, .com, .co, .org, .ai and more. Search the name on the Namelume home page to see the price for each extension.
Can you buy a domain name permanently?
No. A domain name is registered for a set number of years and then renewed. How many years you can register for depends on the extension: .in and .com can be registered for 1 to 10 years, .co for 1 to 5 years, and .ai is registered 2 years at a time. To keep a domain for the long term, register it for more years and renew it before it expires. Namelume does not renew domains automatically: the Renew option appears in your account when the expiry date is 90 days away or less.
Do you need hosting to buy a domain name?
No. You can buy a domain name without hosting and connect it to hosting or a website later.
What are the types of domain extensions?
Domain extensions fall into types, such as generic extensions like .com and .org, and country-code extensions like .in and .co. The full list with examples is in types of domain extensions.
